about

Taking their name from Gulliver’s Travels, the Quartet were an instrumental prog/synth rock act who created unofficial interpretative soundtracks for films which were made about Northern Ireland during the early 1980s. They were determined to take the listener beyond the common subject matter of the Troubles into a realm of Celtic mysticism and horror fantasy influenced as much by Tolkien and Lovecraft as their musical contemporaries. The film scores they recorded were for Angel, Harry’s Game and Cal. Although the results seemingly bore little relation to the films in question, the band were adamant that the two mediums would synchronise if the first note of the album was played at the same time as the first frame on screen, and that this would reveal various unconscious subtexts within.
